Unexposed stallion SHAMALGAN to join Grandcamp on €135K bid

Shamalgan has become something of an old friend for the grounds men at ARQANA as he was making his sixth appearance in the sales ring today, always to a successful outcome. This time he was offered by Andriy Ostapchuk's Greenfield Consignment, having stood three seasons at stud - at Haras du Lion in France in 2014 and 2015, and in 2017 at Haras de Strelice in the Czech Republic, with a return to training in between!

His first crop of only 31 registered foals has lifted the two-year-old winners ANIMA ROCK, AIYANA ROSE and EPIC ADVENTURE from only 6 runners, and the former has gone on to take 2nd in the L. Criterium du Becquet.

This is quite a remarkable record from very limited opportunities, and a chance that German owner-breeder Simon Springer of Dabirsim fame wasn't going to miss out on. Racing manager Daniel Haeser bid up to €135,000 to get the better of Guy Petit and explained:

Mr. Springer has been following the stallion for two years and was very impressed with his first two-year-old runners. We are delighted to have bought him and will send him to Haras de Grandcamp, where Dabirsim also stands. We will support him with our own mares as well as promote him actively to outside breeders.

All these performances were achieved this year under the tutelage of up-and-coming trainer Henri-Francois Devin who took delivery of the daughter of Pivotal after she was purchase by Stephen Hillen.

Bids sparked from all around the ring and it took an offer of €1.3 million from Wertheimer et Frère's Pierre-Yves Bureau to see off all opposition.

This is the most amazing family and Pivotal is flying as a broodmare sire, sighed an emotional Bureau. We need to regroup and have a think but there is a possibility that she could race on at five as her form has only been improving of late. Whatever happens, she will be extremely easy to mate.
